GLENSIDE, PA  --  The family owners of an iconic local business, which has been effectively serving and providing a valued presence in the Greater Glenside community for more than 50 years, will be grand marshals of Glenside's 113th Annual Grand, Glorious, Patriotic July 4 Parade, a colorful and exciting highlight of this area's morning-into-night Independence Day Celebration.

Honorary grand marshal for the patriotic parade is the Joseph C. Fitzgerald Family, owners of Fitzgerald's Tire & Auto Service, located on the northwest corner of Easton and Jenkintown Rds.

Expected to participate in the 1.5-mile march will be the business's founding owner and president, 85-year-old Joseph C. Fitzgerald, who has been semi-retired from the firm since 1996. Joining him in the parade will be his son, Kevin Fitzgerald, Sr., the company's general manager, his wife, Diane, and their son, Kevin, Jr., who works as a service professional in the family business; and daughter Karen Fitzgerald Strawhacker, Fitzgerald's controller and a past president of the Glenside Rotary Club, and her husband, Dave, Fitzgerald's sales manager.  Additionally, other members of the Fitzgerald family will be appearing in the grand marshal section of the parade, scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Monday, July 4.

The senior Fitzgerald has been engaged locally in the automotive service field since 1949, when he became an employee of White's gasoline service station in Glenside.  Following U.S. Army duty in South Korea, Mr. Fitzgerald became a partner with White's in 1955, and assumed full ownership in 1975 when the business name was changed to its current use.  Fitzgerald's has been at its present location since 1960.

Fitzgerald's has been a strong and valued supporter for many years of the Glenside Independence Day Celebration, report officials of the Greater Glenside Patriotic Association (GGPA), the non-profit, all-volunteer membership sponsor of the community's yearly July 4 events.  As it has for several years, Fitzgerald's will again be donating a financial percentage of the company's new tire sales during a June-July period to the GGPA and its celebration, which includes a 10 a.m. We Love America Children's Program at Renninger Memorial Park, Glenside, and an after-dark America the Beautiful Aerial Fireworks Spectacular on the grounds of Abington Senior High and Middle Schools.

The parade will start at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 676, Jenkintown and Edge Hill Rds., and proceed east along Jenkintown Rd.  At Easton Rd., also the site of the Fitzgerald's facility, the parade will head south through the heart of the Glenside business district.  At Waverly Rd. the parade will go east for two blocks to the event conclusion at Keswick Ave. and the Renninger Park.
